Bring it on, 2019
As 2018 comes to a close, I can’t help but do the cliché reflection of what this last year has brought. So, here are some of the highlights:
January — We felt overran by sickness and scary thoughts as Kailanie’s cell counts were out-of-whack.
February — Our worst nightmare came true on the 9th, Kailanie was diagnosed with leukemia.
March – We were settling into our new terrifying cancer world with a port placement surgery. Unable to escape the LMS world, Kailanie also received a programmable shunt. The best part was being told the leukemia was in remission!
April — Kailanie started intense chemotherapy and celebrated Easter in the hospital.
May — Intense chemotherapy requiring 4 hospital admissions continued. A little bit of happy was sprinkled at the end with Koda turning 2.
June — After increased behavioral issues throughout the school year, Jace completed kindergarten.
July – We celebrated Jace’s 6th birthday. Kailanie officially lost all of her hair.
August — Kailanie mastered the big kid swings. On the not so bright side, Jace broke his wrist the day before first grade started.
September — Kailanie started the longest and last phase of treatment, the maintenance phase! She also started preschool.
October — Kailanie turned 4. We also went to the pumpkin patch and celebrated Halloween.
November – We got hit by a string if viruses. In between the viruses, Jace lost his first tooth. We celebrated Thanksgiving in the hospital with pneumonia and parainfluenza.
December — Even with ongoing sickness we escaped to the snow, made ornaments, checked out Christmas lights in various places, and celebrated Christmas at HOME.
From the darkest moments of our parenting journey to exciting new milestones accomplished, 2018 has been anything but dull. We learned how to dream bigger and love deeper. As we glide into 2019, we can only hope it is a much better year. After all, the come back is always better than the setback….bring it on, 2019!
Peace, love, and happiness to all.
